The Heart of Chalmette N. A. met last night in the Council chambers, a great turnout of about 30-35 people ( not bad considering there was a Saints game on )........they had some door prizes, a cash drawing, refreshments, etc...........they discussed the success of the night out against crime event ( about 150 were there ), and started work on plans for a Halloween event, including blocking of a couple of blocks for a neighborhood party. Councilman George Cavignac was there, along with Constable Billy Cure. The next meeting is October 1st, the first Thursday in October.....come on out, meet some people , get involved as little or as much as you wish.

A Hero is Laid to Rest
'He was one of our team' <<<--- Click on this link..........This is a story from "The Province" newspaper in Canada, about a dog named Barkley, who was buried with honors yesterday. I guess it could be said he was one of our's also, as he was a long time member of the Search and Rescue team Vancouver sent to our aid after Katrina. For another interesting web site look at ...............www.can-tf1.org.......or google Vancouver Search and Rescue Team......interesting information and plenty of pictures.

Council Meeting and Hospital Opening
At last nights Council Meeting Wayne Landry spoke about the Hospital progress during a Hospital Service District Committee report.........among other things he noted that the Committee has the plans in hand ( with a couple of small changes left to be made ), and that they are working on financing for a Medical Office Building, which will be open by the time the Hospital is built.
Wayne Landry also noted that the Hospital will be open in December 2011 ( or very early 2112 )................this is really great news. After years of seemingly little progress the hospital is moving forward. Try to stop by the next Hospital meeting ( we will post it in advance)......see for yourself the progress, and maybe even look at the plans. Thanks to Chairman Wayne Landry, George Cavignac, Jim DiFatta, Ron Chapman and Danny Dysart for getting thing moving finally. Also, thanks to Drs. Bertucci and Verrette, who have been involved all along and deserve our thanks. Looking forward to seeing the plans!
The next Hospital Service District meeting will be next Wed Sept 9 in the Council chambers.
The Corp of Engineers updated the Council about the levy system, and said that St Bernard should have a 29 foot high levy system in place by June 2011.
